“Nothing new about flag debate…” Heritage New Zealand Media Release

"The first national flag debate, however, can be traced back to a meeting of Northland rangatira at Waitangi in March 1834 at which Rev Henry Williams – a former Lieutenant in the Royal Navy – presented the gathering of Maori leaders with a choice of three flag designs."
“It’s quite interesting to see that the process of selecting New Zealand’s first national flag just over 180 years ago was in some ways pretty close to what is being proposed for future changes to our flag,” says Heritage New Zealand’s Northland Manager, Bill Edwards."

“Christmas cheer comes to Pompallier Mission” Heritage New Zealand Media Release (27.11.2015)

Every Christmas, Pompallier Mission and New Zealand’s oldest church, Russell’s Christ Church, come together to host community carols for locals and visitors alike. Local groups and soloists will perform traditional festive favourites as well as modern Christmas songs as part of the show, which takes place on Saturday December 20 at 6pm.

“Carols @ Pompallier is an annual fixture for the Russell community and is a great way for the community to re-connect and kick off the festive season,” says the Manager of Pompallier Mission, Scott Elliffe, who will be celebrating his first Christmas in the Bay of Islands this year.
