“Waitangi New Zealand’s first Wāhi Tupuna” Heritage New Zealand Media Release

Heritage_New Zealand_logo“Wāhi tupuna identify places that are important to Maori for their ancestral significance and their associated cultural and traditional values,” says Heritage New Zealand’s Kaihautu Te Kenehi Teira.

"Wāhi tupuna is a new classification under the Act – and Waitangi is the first Wāhi tupuna to be added to the New Zealand Heritage List."

Celebrate Auckland’s annual Heritage Festival (Sept 26 to Oct 4) by enjoying a visit to Alberton and a delicious Devonshire Tea served on vintage fine china and silverware.

The special Heritage Festival Devonshire Tea offer takes place on September 26 and 27 and October 3 and 4, 10.30am-3.30pm, when visitors to Alberton will be able to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with two light English scones served with cream and jam.

Admission to house and exhibition: $10 for adults; children free. Devonshire teas - $6 per person. Bookings for the Devonshire teas are essential as spaces are limited; contact Alberton on Ph 09-846-7367 or email Alberton@heritage.org.nz

Heritage_New Zealand_logo"Alberton’s beds will be undergoing a transformation this month as the Monday Modern Quilt Group displays some of their innovative work in an exciting new exhibition of exquisite bedding."

New Quilts for Alberton Beds takes place between September 19 and 27 (closed Monday and Tuesday).
The free quilting techniques sessions will take place at 2-4pm on September 26 and 27.
Admission: $10 adults; children free – sorry no concessions.
