“Free entry to Auckland properties on Waitangi Day” Alberton ( in Mt Albert) and Highwic (in Newmarket) Heritage New Zealand Media Release

Two of Heritage New Zealand’s staffed Auckland properties - Alberton, in Mt Albert, and Highwic, in Newmarket - will be open free of charge as the country marks its national day, Waitangi Day, on 6 February next year.

“We are delighted to be opening our doors for the public to come and visit a part of their heritage and history at our properties,” says Heritage Destinations General Manager, Nick Chin.

Alberton, the historic mansion in Mt Albert cared for by Heritage New Zealand, will feature in upcoming Auckland Heritage Festival events.

Both events will feature fresh, home-made jam – in differing measures.

“This year we are delighted to welcome gardening guru, columnist and presenter Lynda Hallinan who will present a talk entitled A Jam Session With Lynda Hallinan (Sept 25, 2pm). Here, Lynda will share her experiences making over 500 jars of jam and jelly in 52 weeks using everything from spring strawberries to Autumn quince,” says the Manager of Alberton, Rendell McIntosh.

Devonshire Teas at Alberton:
Sept 24 (10.30am-3pm); Oct 1 (10.30am-3pm); Oct 2 (10.30am-3pm)
Cost: $6 per person; includes two scones with cream and Jam; and tea or coffee. Entry to the house $10; children and Heritage New Zealand members free.

A Jam Session with Lynda Hallinan:
Sept 25, 2pm
Cost: $12 per person, includes afternoon tea and entry to the house

“Twas the Night Before Christmas takes off at Alberton” Heritage New Zealand Media Release (1 Dec. 2015)

The historic mansion in Mt Albert, which is cared for by Heritage New Zealand, will host a series of concerts entitled ’Twas The Night Before Christmas, presented by seasoned performers Cathie Harrop and George Henare.

The programme will consist of Christmas songs and stories, and will also showcase the talents of Paul Harrop (piano), Amanda Kirk (soprano) and musicians Dave and Jennie Khan.

’Twas The Night Before Christmas, December 16, 17 and 18 at 7.30pm, and December 20 at 6.30pm. Tickets $49 per person (includes refreshment).

Celebrate Auckland’s annual Heritage Festival (Sept 26 to Oct 4) by enjoying a visit to Alberton and a delicious Devonshire Tea served on vintage fine china and silverware.

The special Heritage Festival Devonshire Tea offer takes place on September 26 and 27 and October 3 and 4, 10.30am-3.30pm, when visitors to Alberton will be able to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with two light English scones served with cream and jam.

Admission to house and exhibition: $10 for adults; children free. Devonshire teas - $6 per person. Bookings for the Devonshire teas are essential as spaces are limited; contact Alberton on Ph 09-846-7367 or email Alberton@heritage.org.nz

New Quilts for Alberton Beds takes place between September 19 and 27 (closed Monday and Tuesday).
The free quilting techniques sessions will take place at 2-4pm on September 26 and 27.
Admission: $10 adults; children free – sorry no concessions.

“Victorian Dream at Alberton” Jan 10-26 2013 : NZHPT Media Release (20th December 2013)

The exhibition runs from January 10-26 (note Alberton is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). Admission to Victorian Dreams is free, though people can explore Alberton for $10 per adult (school-aged children free).
