MEDIA RELEASE

Classical concert with a difference at Alberton

A classical music concert with a difference will be held at Alberton on November 3.

The NZ Historic Places Trust property in Mt Albert will resonate to the sound of internationally renowned pianist Ludwig Treviranus tackling favourite classics from Haydn, Mendelssohn and Debussy. And for something completely different, he will also lead a sing-along as well.

“Ludwig is that rare combination of talents – a brilliant musician and a great entertainer,” says the Manager of Alberton, Rendell McIntosh.

“This is a golden opportunity for people of all ages who might be interested in classical music to come along and enjoy a concert in a ‘non-stuffy’ atmosphere.”

Fun will be an important feature of his show – as well as beautifully performed music – with the audience having the opportunity to join in with a sing-along featuring some popular tunes while Ludwig accompanies them on the piano.

Ludwig recently graduated as a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance at Florida State University. Prior to studying in Florida, Ludwig was granted a scholarship as a Maori / Pacific Island student to complete his Masters degree at the University of Auckland.

He is currently teaching and performing in Wellington.

“Ludwig is passionate about music – and over the years has been heavily involved in community music groups such as children’s theatre, public schools, churches and rest homes. He also happens to be one of New Zealand’s foremost pianists,” says Rendell.

“People can look forward to a concert of wonderful music.”

Ludwig’s Piano Concert and Sing-Along – part of Alberton’s 150th anniversary celebrations – will take place at Alberton on November 3 and 2pm. Admission - $20 per person or $15 for NZ Historic Places Trust members.
