“NEW STREET LAMPS FOR NASEBY” (HPCO Newsletter 1 July 2014)

On a cold frosty night, May 30th 2014, new and old Naseby residents gathered outside the old Post Office in Derwent Street to celebrate the return of the old street lamps.
The official turning on of these lamps would have been almost as exciting as when power first came to the small township in 1947 and the old kerosene lamps were used no more. (more…)

Historic Places Hawke’s Bay and MTG Hawke’s Bay present this special one-off screening in conjunction with the New Zealand Film Archive. The films showcase the construction of civic buildings and monuments, domestic architecture and the architecture of industry, taking the viewer on a lively journey through 1920s New Zealand, from footage of the temple at Rātana, to evidence of the devastation of the Murchison earthquake, to street-scenes from Lambton Quay to Napier’s lively waterfront. The New Zealand Film Archive has joined forces with The New Zealand Historic Places Trust (NZHPT) and Silo Park to provide a unique opportunity for Aucklanders to step back in time. 
"The report-style short made in 1956 provides an intriguing snapshot of how Aucklanders lived at the time. Highlights include development of the Auckland Harbour Bridge, mid-century architecture, urban drift, motorway design and the specific development pressures of the 1950s." (more…)
