“EXPLORE THE NAPIER-TAIHAPE ROAD SUNDAY, 30 NOVEMBER 2014” Historic Places Hawke’s Bay Heritage Tour
This trip will take in historic sites on the Taihape Road as far as Kuripapango. Along the way we will visit The Church of St John at Omahu, Waiwhenua homestead, established by Horace Shield , and Tunanui, originally the home of Major General Sir Andrew Russell.
The tour will be led by local historian, Pat Parsons who was a contributor to the history of the area, “West to the Annie”. Pat will be pointing out a number of sites of historical interest along the way.
Morning and afternoon tea and a light picnic lunch will be provided. There will be an opportunity for a short walk from the lunch venue so come prepared for a day in the country.

"A range of retro toys and games will be on sale for a very limited time at the 277 Newmarket shopping centre in mid-November – and money raised will go towards the maintenance and upkeep of Highwic, cared for by Heritage New Zealand."
"The special collection of children’s merchandise – usually found only at Highwic, located across the road from the premium Auckland retail magnet – will be the star attraction of a pop-up shop that will be set up in the shopping centre over the weekend of November 15-16."

“Take the sniff test at Highwic’s Sweet Pea Festival” Heritage New Zealand Media Release
"Internationally renowned horticulturist and leading Sweet Pea breeder, Dr Keith Hammett, will be asking people at the Festival [November 22-23] to give their feedback on the strength of scent from a range of four or five different Sweet Pea cultivars he has developed."
Highwic’s Sweet Pea Festival takes place on November 22 and 23 (10am-4.30pm).
Entry – Adults $10; Heritage New Zealand members - $5; Children – free.

H.P.A. AGM Saturday 8th November 2014
“Jubilee Clock Tower restoration celebrated” C.C.C. Media Release
"The careful restoration has included deconstructing each of the tower legs and the construction of a new internal reinforced concrete structure to strengthen them. The existing foundations were strengthened. The original stone was cut and used as a veneer in the same place it used to be on the clocktower. The clocktower’s spire was straightened, strengthened and reinstated."
