Barrhill Launch of Historic Places Mid Canterbury

Over 100 people attended the public launch of Historic Places Mid Canterbury. They  witnessed  the last activity of the Ashburton Branch NZHPT with the unveiling of the Barrhill Village Interpretation Panel. Malcolm Duff the Southern Regional Manager in his opening remarks announced it was one of his last public duties as he was leaving NZHPT for sunnier climes. (more…)

Historic Places Canterbury Incorporated.

Historic Places Aotearoa has its first regional society with the news that Historic Places Canterbury has been incorporated. Arrangements are being made to hold the inaugural meeting and elect the first Committee.

The Canterbury Branch Committee of the NZHPT met on 15th February and passed a resolution that initiates the process to transition to Historic Places Canterbury.

Isel House

Isel House is a Nelson heritage gem. Picturesque Isel House is set in 4 hectares of gardens and woodlands (Isel Park). Easy to find, (on the Main Road in Stoke) and only 12 minutes drive from Nelson’s City centre make it an essential visit.

Isel House has 6 rooms open to the public, which have been furnished with original fabrics, furniture, 19th century oil paintings and a high end ceramic collection and displays of Nelson’s history.

NZHPT’s New Name

Just before Parliament broke for the election, Chris Finlayson, the Minister for Culture and Heritage introduced the New Zealand Historic Places Trust bill. The NZHPT will have a new name. NZHPT members will lose their branch committees and their Board Representatives. (more…)
