MEDIA RELEASE
Jamming at Alberton for Auckland Heritage Festival
Alberton, the historic mansion in Mt Albert cared for by Heritage New Zealand, will feature in upcoming Auckland Heritage Festival events.
Both events will feature fresh, home-made jam – in differing measures.
“This year we are delighted to welcome gardening guru, columnist and presenter Lynda Hallinan who will present a talk entitled A Jam Session With Lynda Hallinan (Sept 25, 2pm). Here, Lynda will share her experiences making over 500 jars of jam and jelly in 52 weeks using everything from spring strawberries to Autumn quince,” says the Manager of Alberton, Rendell McIntosh.
“Her adventures in jam-making are all documented in her latest book Foggydale Farm Jam Sessions, though Lynda will also be talking about her 300 fruit trees on her Hunua ranges farm, and will pass on tips for growing and harvesting while stewing a batch of jam for the audience to sample. Tea will follow Lynda’s presentation, as well as an opportunity for people to buy books signed by Lynda.”
And for those jam fans more interested in enjoying the finished product, Alberton will present a series of Devonshire Teas on the verandah of Alberton overlooking the garden, and in the ballroom. The teas will feature light English scones with cream and jam, and tea or coffee served in vintage china.
“The Auckland Heritage Festival provides people with a great excuse to come along and enjoy some wonderful events at one of Auckland’s loveliest heritage buildings,” says Rendell.
