Historic Places Canterbury and the Christchurch Civic Trust are staging the “Valuing Heritage” exhibition at the recently re-opened Cathedral Junction. The “Valuing Heritage” exhibition is part of the Christchurch City Council’s “Reconnect: experience heritage” being held over this weekend.
The Valuing Heritage exhibition has the following themes:
Celebrating Our Listed Heritage Buildings That Are Being Saved.
Highlighting Our Heritage Buildings That Are Still Under Threat.
Commemorating The Huge Loss Of Our Heritage Buildings Post Quake.

The exhibition has movies, images of our heritage buildings.
Christchurch Residents will be encouraged write and leave personal  “post it note” messages on their favorite listed building.

Historic Places Canterbury and the Christchurch Civic Trust acknowledges Equity Trust Pacific who provided the venue and generous support for the exhibition.

“We are celebrating the listed heritage buildings that have been saved.  Ironside House, Woodford, St Pauls at Papanui, the Canterbury Museum, New Regents Street are living proof that Heritage buildings are economical to repair and strengthen.”
Ross Gray Deputy Chair Historic Places Canterbury

“The exhibition has an architectural model that shows the Millers Building could be used as Bus Interchange. CCDU / CERA do not have to demolish the Millers Building, they could use it as the Bus Interchange.”
Ross Gray Deputy Chair Historic Places Canterbury

“Christchurch Residents will leave the exhibition wanting to ask Minister Gerry Brownlee and Warwick Issac’s CCDU the following questions:
“Where is the Heritage Recovery Programme?”
“The Majestic Theatre and Miller’s Building can be repaired, so why are you demolishing these listed heritage buildings when there is so much empty space in the Christchurch CBD?”
Ross Gray Deputy Chair Historic Places Canterbury

“We have a display of the listed heritage buildings that have been demolished / lost since the Quakes. This is the first exhibition where Christchurch Residents will be able to view the very special heritage buildings that have in too many cases been needlessly lost.”
Dr. Lynne Lochhead- Historic Places Canterbury and Godley Trust

“We are encouraging Christchurch residents to write and leave a post it note on the display telling us why the heritage building was so important to them.”
Mark Gerrard Chair Historic Places Canterbury
