Christchurch City Council’s decision to save the Christchurch Town Hall represents a line in the sand for heritage buildings in Christchurch, says Labour’s Arts, Culture and Heritage spokesperson Grant Robertson.
“It is great to see a unanimous decision for a significant architectural landmark in the city.
“The arts community in Christchurch, from Gap Filler, to the Court Theatre, the CSO, and all the relocated galleries, artists, musicians and performers have kept Christchurch spirits alive throughout the last three years.
“Their energy is vital to the exciting new city Christchurch will be.
“It is important the Town Hall is part of a network of complimentary and not competing arts venues in the city,” Grant Robertson says.
