Submissions Invited: Draft Canterbury Conservation Management Strategy

In 2011, the Department re-commenced a review of the Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) for Canterbury.  Conservation management strategies are 10-year strategic documents that set the direction for how the Department will manage places and focus our work over the next decade.

If you have previously provided input to this review, thank you.

The draft Canterbury CMS has now been prepared and was publicly notified for submissions today, Wednesday 26 June 2013.  You are invited to make a submission; these are due with us no later than 4.30pm on Friday 13 September 2013.

Alongside the draft Canterbury CMS, the Department is publicly notifying draft conservation management strategies for Otago and Southland Murihiku. Collectively, these draft strategies show how the Department intends to manage conservation values in the lower South Island over the next 10 years.  You are also invited to submit on these draft strategies, which are on the same timeline as outlined above.

You can view and download the draft Canterbury, Otago and Southland Murihiku strategies online and find information about making a submission on our website www.doc.govt.nz/cms.

Copies of the draft Canterbury CMS are available for viewing at the Department’s National Office (Wellington), all Conservancy Offices, Area Offices in Rangiora, Christchurch, Geraldine, Aoraki/Mt Cook and Twizel, Visitor Centres in Arthur’s Pass and Aoraki/Mt Cook and main libraries in Canterbury.

We encourage your involvement in these processes as this is your chance to influence the future direction for those places important to you.  For more information or to request a CD or hardcopy of a draft CMS phone (03) 371-3700 or email southislandcms@doc.govt.nz.

Yours sincerely
