The recently reopened Heritage Christchurch set in the iconic 100 year old Old Government Building on Cathedral Square, will open its doors to the public for tours on the afternoon of Sunday 20 October during the Reconnect: experience heritage event.

Heritage Christchurch was designed by renowned founding city architect, Joseph Clarkson Maddison, and is believed to be his crowning work in a career that spanned a half a century in Canterbury.

The Old Government Building, his one remaining working heritage building post the quake, is described as of ‘monumental importance’ to Christchurch’s architectural history and has an intriguing past along with a promising future.

To hear about about this amazingly resilient building, the Heritage Christchurch is offering afternoon tours on the hour from 2 PM on Sunday 20 October. Entrance is free with a voluntary donation to the Historic Places Aotearoa Trust welcomed.

The Reconnect: experience heritage event is a Christchurch City Council one-off event with open days, tours and walks over 18/20 October, offering the community the chance to reconnect with the region’s post quake heritage buildings. See the Christchurch City Council website for details.
