Heritage New Zealand has arranged for internationally renowned Australian conservation expert,
David Young, to run this Auckland-only workshop introducing buildings conservation, maintenance and understanding traditional building materials – including masonry, mortars, lime plasters, wood and timbers, paints and metals.

This week-long workshop is an excellent professional development opportunity for anyone working with heritage buildings – including architects, planners, local and central Government staff, consents staff, owners, developers, heritage professionals, project managers and builders.

Spaces limited to just 25 people.

About the presenter

David Young is a heritage consultant specialising in building materials conservation. With a background in geology he has been involved in the diagnosis and repair of historic buildings and sites for over thirty years, with a particular focus on those of stone. He also undertakes a range of teaching and training activities including running a summer school program at the University of Canberra and teaching the conservation of architectural materials at the University of Melbourne. He has contributed to international courses on wood conservation in Norway, and has run short courses on building conservation in South Africa and New Zealand.

He was convenor of the Australia ICOMOS working group that undertook major revisions to the Burra Charter in 1995–1999. He has chaired a Heritage Advisory Panel for the Port Arthur Historic Site and the New South Wales Heritage Council’s Technical Advisory Group. He is a member of the Heritage Council of Victoria’s Technical Advisory Committee.
