60-70 people turned up to listen to the Win Clark Lecture that was held in the Cashmere Presbyterian Church.

Join the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and Historic Places Aotearoa at an evening lecture by consultant earthquake engineering Win Clark.  Win is Executive Officer for the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering and has over 40 years experience in New Zealand’s design and construction industry.  He has been involved in design and construction monitoring of hospitals, school buildings, courts, and post offices and also has reviewed many historic buildings for strengthening. Wins particular areas of interest are seismic engineering and assessment/refit of masonry buildings, including heritage buildings and monuments.”

The focus of the lecture will be:  Why do masonry buildings fall in earthquakes?   What are the major issues to be considered for a strengthening scheme?  What techniques do we have to strengthen our remaining older buildings?  Is strengthening affordable and viable?
