This is a rerun of the successful trip we ran two years ago. If you were unlucky enough to miss out on the day or heard about it too late here is your opportunity to catch up on the history of Waimarama and the scenic and historic Hakikino Conservation Reserve. The tour will be led by local resident and kaumatua, Robert MacDonald who will meet us in Havelock North. There will also be input from Pat Parsons and Rose Mohi.
Hakikino is the 15th century ancestral site occupied by the ancestors of the Waimarama Maori people situated on private property near Waimarama. We will traverse the archaeological remains of the ancient village, and visit protected wet-lands sheltering native eels. Robert will also acquaint us with local Maori myths, legends and custom. We will also be visiting historic sites in Waimarama. A box lunch will be served at Hakikino.
