Release Of Draft Auckland Unitary Plan – Historic Heritage Provisions

The Auckland Unitary Plan is for activities and development in the Auckland region.
It contains a range of new draft provisions for historic heritage including-

Unified schedule of historic heritage places (with new significance criteria).

New categories for the schedule of historic heritage places: Group A*, A^, A, B and conservation areas based on values-based criteria:

The three categories:

o    Category A – places are of exceptional overall significance to the Auckland region or greater geographic area.

o   Category B – places are of considerable overall significance to a locality or greater geographic area.

o   Conservation Area – a concentration of places that, as a group, have at least considerable overall significance to a locality or greater geographic area.

Map overlays defining the extent of scheduled heritage places

New historic character areas (as overlays on planning maps). The business character areas include Balmoral, Eden Valley, Ellerslie, Grey Lynn, Howick, Kingsland, Mt Eden, Newmarket, Onehunga, Parnell, Ponsonby, Sandringham, Upper Symonds Street, West Lynn and Helensville.
