An academic and author who has helped define the way we see ourselves as a nation was crowned New Zealander of the Year on 28 February 2013 at a ritzy awards ceremony at the Langham Hotel in Auckland.
In responding to Anna Crighton, Historic Places Aotearoa President's congratulatory message, Dame Anne said 'It was an astounding night, and so lovely to share it with family and friends, and three tables from the Tai Rawhiti - we ended the night with a rousing performance of 'Paikea' - the favorite action song from our part of the country. I appreciate your support and fantastic work, more than I can say.'
Dame Anne is a 'working' Patron and attended and spoke at the launch of Historic Places Aotearoa at Government House last August.
