HPA inaugural President Dr Anna Crighton was awarded the title Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year Honours (2020) for services to Heritage Preservation and Governance.

Dame Anna in an interview with RNZ National stated. "I'm proud of Historic Places Aotearoa...".
